About Us
King’s College London is seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Risk and Resilience to lead the University’s approach to Business Continuity, Emergency Management, and Operational Risk. Based in the office of the Chief Operating Officer and working with colleagues across the University, this pivotal role ensures King’s remains resilient in delivering its core mission, even in the face of disruption.
About the Role
As Head of Risk and Resilience, you will work across the University to ensure that risk and resilience frameworks are robust, fit for purpose, and aligned with best practice. You’ll lead the Business Continuity Steering Group, advise senior leaders, and act as Incident Manager during critical events. You’ll be supported by a dedicated Business Continuity Manager and collaborate closely with Faculties and Directorates to embed resilience into strategic planning.
We are seeking a confident and strategic leader who brings deep expertise in risk management and business continuity. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving meaningful, organisation-wide change. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills are essential, along with experience in managing incidents and leading cross-functional teams through complex challenges. A commitment to continuous improvement and professional development will be key to thriving in this dynamic and high-impact role.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. First degree with a professional qualification in risk management, business continuity or equivalent professional experience.
2. Sound working knowledge of risk management and business continuity principles, including best practice in this area.
3. Demonstrable experience of developing and sharing risk management and business continuity policy and procedures, ideally in a large complex organisation.
4. Experience of providing professional advice on risk management and business continuity to senior colleagues and ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels through excellent written and presentation skills.
5. Ability to impart complex or difficult information to non-specialists, particularly in a training context.
6. Ability to carry out work accurately and with attention to detail, with a proactive approach to problem solving.
7. Ability to work across internal structures and to adapt to organisational change and workplace technological advances.
8. Self-motivated and able to work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a busy team.
Desirable criteria
1. Membership of a relevant professional body.
2. Experience of delivering training.
3. Good working knowledge of incident management principles.
4. Experience of reviewing processes for efficiency and effectiveness, and researching, analysing and implementing alternative solutions to improve service delivery.
5. Understanding of Higher Education and the relevant regulatory landscape.
