Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual, who is currently part of the theatre team. The candidate will act as a communication and co-ordination link for emergency surgical patients requiring care across the Trust, including A&E.
As Emergency Coordinator you will be expected to manage the scheduling of priority patients on theatre CEPOD lists for emergency surgery patients across the Trust. ensuring the delivery of consistent high-quality care and maintenance of an appropriate care pathway.
Main duties of the job
Co-ordinate the patient pathway and prioritisation into appropriate theatre lists (specialist elective or emergency).
Identify septic patients through MEWS scoring and facilitate prompt treatment as per sepsis pathway.
Assess all emergency surgical patients, identifying those suitable to be discharged and co-ordinate further investigations and pathway management.
Ensure a co-ordinated admission, inpatient episode and discharge for emergency surgery patients across the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Ensure participation on all pre-operative ward rounds and post-operative consultations/ patient visits.
• Maintain an active role in discharge planning. Ensure appropriate rehabilitation planned and early referrals made. Act as the Unit lead in identifying patients suitable for early discharge.
• Manage the scheduling of priority patients on theatre CEPOD lists for emergency surgery patients across the Trust.
• Actively participate with the multidisciplinary team in the development, implementation and audit of integrated care pathways for identified patient groups.
• Manage the pathway for emergency laparotomy patients with the relevant General Surgical on call Team, Anaesthetics and Critical Care.
• Co-ordinate optimum nutrition for acute abdomen patients with Dietetics and rehabilitation plans in particular for outlier patients on non-specialty wards
